In Publisher, you can add a watermark to appear on every page or only some pages. The text or images that you add to the background of a page simulate the translucence of a traditional watermark. Add words such as draft or sample to the pages in a publication by using this technique. Click the master page that you want to add the watermark to edit, or right-click the Pages for more options, such as add or delete master pages and changing to a two-page master. Right-click the text and use the quick view menu or font dialog box to select font color and fill effects.

Click the arrow next to the Color list, and then click Fill Effects. In the Fill Effects dialog box, click a tint of the color that is 30 percent or lighter. Tip: To simulate a traditional watermark, select Emboss or Engrave under Effects in the Font dialog box.

You can use a picture, clip art, or other image, such as a company logo. Images, sized from small to full-page, serve as effective backgrounds for text when the text color contrasts consistently with the image’s colors.

The process for adding a WordArt watermark is similar to the process for adding text as a watermark to your publication. You will do all of your entering text, selecting the WordArt style, color, and size working in the Master Page view.

Select the colors that you want, and then increase the transparency setting to at least 70 percent. When your publication uses only one master page and you add a watermark to that master page, the watermark appears on every page of your publication. To add a watermark that appears on selected pages only, place the text or picture on the publication pages instead of on the master page, and then send the picture or text box to the back. To add a different watermark to a set of pages, such as a chapter or a book signature, create different master pages, insert the appropriate watermark into each master page, and then apply each master page to the appropriate range of publication pages.

You can also add a watermark across a two-page master page. Tip: If a watermark is placed behind other objects on the page, the objects that are hiding it may be opaque.

If the object is opaque, it becomes transparent; if the object is already transparent, it becomes white. Select the Print Layout from the three icons at the bottom right of Word. Click on Watermark in the Page Background group to expand the options under it. Choose any of the default watermarks from the choices Word provides, but do make sure it is appropriate for the document. Word places the faded watermark on the document just behind your text.

Again, the watermark is only visible in the Print Layout view. The default watermarks are there when speed and convenience matter. But there may be occasions when the limited choices on Word don’t work for you. You can use make your own watermark and use it with the document.

Just adding your own text or a picture isn’t the only way to customize your watermark. The basic ones are all pale gray. Word also allows you to click the appearance by changing its color, size, and position on the page manually. The watermark is part of the header in the document even though it appears in the middle of the page or repeats across the entire page.

All you have to do is open the header by double clicking somewhere near the top of the page. With the header section open, click the watermark to select it like any other object on the page. Move the cursor over the watermark until the cursor turns into a four-headed arrow. Change one watermark and the customization will automatically reflect in all the pages of your document.

Just like moving or resizing a watermark, deleting one removes it from every page of your document. In section 1 I add the watermark, and all is fine, but no watermark appears on the section 2 pages.

I move the focus to section 2 and do the same action. Add watermark from the design view. Pages on section 2 show the watermark fine. The problem is when I added the watermark on section 2, the watermark that previously displayed on Section 1 disappeared. Then if I go to section 3 and add a watermark there, the one from section 2 disappears It’s as if only one section in the document can have a watermark.

Is this by design and is there a setting that I can use to have the watermark apply across all pages? I am fine with adding it to each section individually. This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread. I have the same question
